Elin and the Tribalites

The band has been described as fresh, new, earthy and completely original. The Tribalite’s work refutes the idea that the past and the contemporary are somehow different places, unashamedly relishing the culture of our forebears as vibrant stories very much belonging to the ‘folk’ of today’s world.  Their special connection with audiences is achieved through total honesty of expression, and the contribution of each member is valued by all. The band members all live in Wales between Llantrisant and Tenby. Our 5 track EP (22mins playing time) is available for £5. Please get in touch for a copy.

Every Monday night (mainly term-time) the Tribalites hold an open session at the Drovers Arms in Carmarthen. Everyone is welcome, to play or just enjoy the music!

Elin and the Tribalites play regularly at festivals and events such as parties and wedding twmpaths. Please see myspace/elinandthetribalites for the latest Tribalite gigs and news.

I also play for the Derbyshire Harp Ensemble. Please see my duet partner Helen’s website for information on how to book the ensemble of 7 harpsists for events, purchase our album or make enquiries- telyn.com

Simon after more than 30 years in west Wales has embodied the traditions, nature and language, which are infused in his songs and poetry. Life in wales, working animals on the farms with local farmers is a constant source of inspiration. Although not a welsh speaker the rhythms of the Welsh language drive the poems. Simon’s constant artistic prowess has reached far into the music of the Tribalites, playing his own skilfully hand made instruments, creating a unique tribaletic sound.

Aaron heads up the rhythym section of the tribalites with his trusty bodhran...a drum which he was inspired to learn to play because of his Celtic roots and by a weekend at the Cwlym Celtaidd Music Festival where he once saw a guy called Will recite poetry on his skins! Aaron spends as much of his day, as is possible, playing drums of all shapes and sizes. His work with Slappingskins takes him all over the country so even when at work Aaron is able to stay on the beat.  www.slappingskins.co.uk

Pete Cooper the concertina, lives in west Wales, in an old farmhouse with Mary who is the finest cake maker ever produced by Ireland. As well as life in rural Manobier, other essential ingredients to Pete’s musical inspiration comes from a childhood in Africa, his work as a therapist and painter. Peter is delving into the common sources of all the arts and their traditional origins, in search of the truths owned by our ancestors. Pete finds that 70% chocolate facilitates his concertina playing and his role as the bands music theory guru, a role that he shares with Elin.
