Elin and the Tribalites

The band has been described as fresh, new, earthy and completely original. The Tribalite's work refutes the idea that the past and the contemporary are somehow different places, unashamedly relishing the culture of our forebears as vibrant stories, very much belonging to the "folk" of today's world. We explore a mixture of our own words put to traditional melodies, improvisation. Our special connection with audiences is achieved through total honesty of expression, and the contribution of each member is valued by all. Simon Hedger

Simon after more than 30 years in west Wales has embodied the traditions, nature and language, which are infused in his songs and poetry. Life in wales, working animals on the farms with local farmers is a constant source of inspiration. Although not a welsh speaker the rhythms of the Welsh language drive the poems. Simon's constant artistic prowess has reached far into the music of the Tribalites, playing his own skilfully hand made instruments, creating a unique tribaletic sound.

Pete Cooper

Pete Cooper the concertina, lives in west Wales, in an old farmhouse with Mary who is the finest cake maker ever produced by Ireland. As well as life in rural Manobier, other essential ingredients to Pete's musical inspiration comes from a childhood in Africa, his work as a therapist and painter. Peter is delving into the common sources of all the arts and their traditional origins, in search of the truths owned by our ancestors. Pete finds that 70% chocolate facilitates his concertina playing and his role as the bands music theory guru, a role that he shares with Elin.

Every Monday night (term-time) the Tribalites hold an open session at the Drovers Arms in Carmarthen. Everyone is welcome, to play or just enjoy the music!
